The Vegso Community Resource Center opened its doors in January of 2004 after careful thought and research. The goal of the facility is to satisfy a need to have a single, centralized Resource Center to serve all of the South Palm Beach County non-profit organizations. This exciting concept offers great promise toward realization of the effort to confront and resolve many community social skills. Learn More.
Florence Fuller
The Junior League provides support for the children and their families at special times of the year. We also volunteer to interact with the infants (ages one month to two years) and are assisting with renovations to the West Campus Infant Nursery facility. Florence Fuller is a child development center committed to providing quality childcare to serve economically disadvantaged families. The Center is dedicated to serving children and families from low-income households.
Done-In-A-Day (DIAD)
DIAD events offer a wide range of rewarding volunteer experiences to JLBR members and provide significant volunteer service to community nonprofit organizations. DIAD events/programs are typically short-term, low cost and mobilize large numbers of volunteers. Click here, to see how JLBR volunteers can help your organization.
In The Pines
2005 Community Impact Award, Association of Junior Leagues International
The Junior League provides funding and volunteer support to improve the living conditions of agricultural workers and their families who reside at In The Pines North and South residences in western Delray Beach, Florida. Family members receive basic life skills training, homework assistance and participate in educational and recreational community activities.
The Spirit of Giving
The Spirit of Giving is a collaborative network of 17 local non-profit agencies serving children and families in the South Palm Beach area. Agencies include: The Milagro Center, Kids in Distress, Kids at Home, In the Pines, Caring Kitchen, The Haven, Florence Fuller, and many others. Because The Spirit of Giving is such a far-reaching and positive influence in our community, the Junior League felt that a partnership with The Spirit of Giving could only make our relationships with the member organizations stronger, thus making our community impact deeper. The Spirit of Giving Committee seeks to accomplish two specific goals this year: to expand the current Spirit of Giving organization into “The Spirit of Giving Network”, an improved collaborative designed to help members streamline the delivery of services to the community by working collaboratively; solving issues and improving operations through internal and external community partnerships. The second goal is to successfully manage and coordinate The 2008 Spirit of Giving Holiday Gift Drive, a drive that collects over 2000 holiday gifts for local children in need. Hometown Histories
The Junior League provides funding and volunteer support to develop and provide classroom presentations to local 4th graders on topics related to art, culture and the history of Boca Raton. In a strategic partnership with the Boca Raton Museum of Art and the Boca Raton Historical Society, the Junior League will supervise, coordinate and execute an innovative and exciting educational outreach program.
Kids in Distress (KID)
The Junior League provides funding and volunteer support to assist in providing services that care for and treat young victims of child abuse and neglect, and those at risk, in our community. Through abuse prevention and therapeutic programs, families are strengthened and supported in their effort to stay whole. KID's Foster Care program steps in when necessary to place children in loving, stable foster homes. Some foster placements result in adoption.
The Junior Leagues’ Kids in the Kitchen is an Association-wide initiative of The Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI) designed to help communities address the urgent issues surrounding childhood obesity and poor nutrition. The program was launched in 2006 by Junior Leagues in over 225 communities and continued in 2007 with participation by over 255 Leagues. By joining together to make an impact on the future health of our youth, the JLBR for the third year in collaboration with Leagues in four countries are committed to empowering today’s youth to make choices that help them lead healthy lives. The initiative illustrates the power of voluntarism to address community problems on both the grassroots and international levels.
Horses and the Handicapped
The Junior League's newest project, Horses and the Handicapped, is dedicated to providing effective therapeutic horseback riding and other equine-assisted activities for children and adults with physical, cognitive and emotional difficulties. The facility is located in Tradewinds Park in Coconut Creek. Horses and the Handicapped is currently building a new indoor arena to provide more access and classes.
Milagro Center
The Milagro Center, a new project for the JLBR this year, is a unique arts integrated, educational and cultural facility providing care for low-income children from first to fifth grades. The Junior League is helping to design and build a playground, securing the equipment and coordinating the installation and landscaping.
Public Issues & Advocacy
PIA is an issue-oriented committee that advocates for community needs, League interests and State Pubic Affairs Committee (SPAC) focus areas. The committee improves the JLBR’s ability to oversee attention and involvement in our League's focus areas. Additionally, this committee pursues ideas for future project development initiatives and works with Project Development to review and evaluate opportunities.
